Minnesota may be known for their hotdish, lefse, and Jucy Lucy burgers (don’t cha know?), but don’t be too quick to dismiss its wide variety of tasty vegan and vegetarian restaurants. Plant-eating lovers rejoice! Minnesota has you covered. From Acai Bowls to Burrito Bowls, there’s something for every set of taste buds to enjoy.

Be prepared. These places are going to make your mouth water.

FRENCH MEADOW BAKERY & CAFE

Fun Fact: French Meadow Bakery and Cafe is the oldest certified organic bakery in the U.S. Now that’s pretty cool! The hearty soups, sandwiches, veggie burgers, and other vegetarian options are great for lunch and dinner, but they don’t skimp on breakfast either for the early birds. Blueberry Corn Pancakes with pure maple syrup anyone? One last thing – I dare you to walk past the case of freshly baked cakes, cupcakes, muffins, and decadent pastries (yes, they offer gluten-free and vegan options) without adding one to your order.

PEOPLE’S ORGANIC

Judging by the name (though we try not to judge a book by its cover), you can probably guess that People’s Organic is the place to go for those interested in eating organic food. If you have to choose one thing on the menu, go for the breakfast; you can’t beat it – their vegetarian breakfast burrito is out of this world. This cozy cafe has several locations in the Minneapolis area, so suburbanites and city lovers can all enjoy.

TRUCE

I’m sure you’ve been noticing all of the juice bars popping up around the country. TRUCE just so happens to be Minnesota’s first 100% fresh-pressed juice shop. Not only do they have a rainbow of juices and smoothies, but they also have the coveted Acai bowls. Ohhhhhh yes. Instagram foodies swoon because these Acai bowls are picture worthy.

Tip: They typically offer juices on sale when they are nearing the end of their shelf life, so head there at the end of the week to snag some discounted (yet still fresh) juice! Score.

CRISP & GREEN

If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that Crisp & Green holds a special place in my heart. Their original location in Wayzata, MN which happens to be my favorite place in MN! I frequently host nutrition and wellness events in their restaurant because their philosophy is that nourishment goes beyond the kitchen. They are relatively new, but expanding quickly! Their mission is to provide nutritious and convenient food to fit a busy, wellness-driven lifestyle. The items on their menu include delicious salads, grain bowls, hearty soups, nutritious smoothies, kombucha on tap, and their signature agua frescas (Pineapple is my favorite).

COMMON ROOTS CAFE

Making its debut in 2007, this cheerful and bright venue is the place to be from scratch, farm-to-table food. The noshes are perfect if you’re looking for a smaller portion, but the Fish Tacos are a must-try for lunch. If you enjoy a cocktail on a patio, pay a visit to Common Roots Cafe in the summer and enjoy a drink with a side of their house-made anise seed crackers with olive tapenade and sweet pea hummus. It’s all about balance, right?
