This Spirulina Smoothie Bowl is perfectly sweet, refreshing, delicious, and incredibly nutritious. It’s made with 5 simple ingredients and makes for a great breakfast, light lunch or snack.

Summer is officially here which means smoothie bowls on repeat. I’m all for the refreshing cooling foods, anyone else? I’ll even make a smoothie bowl for lunch on super hot days because that’s the only thing that sounds appealing to me when it’s a sauna outside.

Let’s talk about the goods in this smoothie, shall we? The base is nut milk of your choosing (almond milk, coconut, hemp, or cashew milk would all work) and frozen banana.

The real star of the show is Spirulina. Spirulina is a natural “algae” powder that is incredibly high in protein and a good source of antioxidants, B-vitamins and other nutrients. It’s also 60% protein and a complete protein, containing all essential amino acids. Not to mention, it’s extremely alkalizing to the body. Spirulina is a true superfood.

So what does it taste like? Don’t let the intense green color scare you off! When you add Spirulina to a smoothie it takes on a whole new flavor…it doesn’t taste like algae at all.

The other ingredients for this smoothie include a vanilla plant-based protein powder for an extra protein boost and avocado. I always add avocado to smoothies to add a nice creamy texture.
