Some wellness experts recommend extended cleanses a few times a year to rid the body of toxins. Sometimes cleanses of that nature can feel too rigid and restrictive. Instead, try incorporating these 5 very simple habits into your daily routine to detox every day.

1. Hot Lemon Water

I love starting my day with a glass of hot lemon water. It is extremely cleansing to the digestive system and liver. Hot water helps to speed up digestion by putting pressure on your bowels to help release anything sitting in your body. It’s important to remember that regular bowel movements are part of a healthy digestion routine! You can read more about the benefits of drinking hot lemon water in one of my previous posts.

2. Hydrate

Hydration is key to everything. When in doubt, have a glass of water! Drinking plenty of water helps to flush out accumulated waste from the body. When the body is dehydrated, it is not able to function at its highest potential. Aim to have at least a large glass of water in morning and before every meal.

3. Eat Whole Foods

Eating fresh, whole, plant-based foods over processed and packaged foods is the quickest way to flush out toxins. Processed food is full of chemicals, preservatives, and additives. These all cause toxic build-up in the body. By replacing these packaged foods with whole produce, nuts, and grains you will notice that your body will feel lighter and full of energy.

4. Sweat it Out

The sweat leaving your body is full of toxins. It’s healthy to get a solid 30-minute workout in every day that gets your heart pumping and the sweat dripping. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy so you are more likely to stick with it!

5. Practice Deep Breathing

Yes, you read that right…breathing can help you detox! Deep breathing activates our

Parasympathetic Nervous System, which helps clear your mind, burn fat, speed up your metabolism, and remove toxins from our body. To reap the benefits, take a long, deep, and slow breath in through your nose, hold for two seconds, then breathe out through your mouth. Make it a strong breath that creates heat. Make an effort to take deep breathing breaks throughout the day.

Steps to Take Today:

  1. Try adding one or two habits to your day at a time. See how it goes!
  2. Take note of how you feel after adding these habits to your routine.
  3. Comment below on which habits you are going to try and share with your friends!
