Chocolate and cherry have always been one of my favorite flavor combinations. I love the sweetness and richness of the chocolate and the tartness of the cherries. This chocolate cherry smoothie bowl tastes like dessert, but it’s a perfectly balanced breakfast or snack filled with healthy carbohydrates, plant-based protein, and fiber.

WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN THIS CHOCOLATE CHERRY SMOOTHIE RECIPE?

This smoothie bowl is made with a handful of ingredients: frozen cherries frozen banana, Medjool dates, cacao reishi powder, superfood, and adaptogen blend powder, and plant-based protein powder.

HOW TO MAKE A CHOCOLATE CHERRY SMOOTHIE BOWL

This easy smoothie bowl comes together with just a few simple steps.

First, you’ll need to freeze a ripe banana ahead of time. I make smoothies every day, so I keep frozen bananas stocked in a large Ziploc bag in my freezer. This way I always have them on hand and ready to use! The best time to peel and freeze a banana is when the peel is yellow with brown specks. Ripe bananas are perfectly sweet and also digest the best.

Second, add the ingredients to a blender. This includes a frozen banana, frozen dark cherries, a Medjool date, cacao powder, superfood adaptogen blend, and plant-based protein.

Third, transfer the smoothie to a bowl. The consistency should be super thick. Top with any ingredients of your choosing. Cacao nibs are delicious and add a nice crunch. Enjoy with a spoon!

NICOLE’S SMOOTHIE TIPS:

  • Use frozen fruit for this recipe. Frozen fruit is a must when it comes to making a thick, creamy smoothie bowl. You know you’ve made the perfect smoothie bowl when it comes out like soft-serve ice cream.
  • The less liquid the better. Start with about one cup of water just to help with blending. If you want to turn this into a smoothie to take on the go and drink with a straw, simply add more liquid. Also, keep in mind that the amount of liquid needed to blend will also depend on how strong your blender is.
  • Add your favorite toppings! I added cacao nibs and black cherries. Other delicious options include almond butter, granola, berries, coconut flakes, etc. Anything goes!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Frozen Dark Cherries
  • 1 Frozen Banana
  • 1 Medjool Date pitted
  • 1 scoop Vanilla Plant-Based Protein Powder
  • 1 Tbs Navitas Organics Cacao + Longevity Blend
  • 1 tsp Navitas Organics Superfood + Adaptogen Blend
  • 1 cup Water or Non-Dairy Milk
  • Cacao Nibs

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender.
  • Blend until smooth. Note: You can add additional water as needed, depending on the power of your blender. Remember more liquid creates a thinner consistency while less liquid creates a thicker consistency.
